These cute little spiders are actually made from a chocolate peanut butter protein ball. They’re perfect for some quick energy, and make an adorable healthy kid snack for Halloween.
We love protein balls in our house. They’re a fast and easy way to ward off the hunger monster without turning to the empty carbs that people typically snack on. Because they’re packed with protein, they give you energy that lasts so much longer, and won’t cause you to crash later.
I saw these cute chocolate peanut butter spider cookies on Pinterest last week, and immediately thought that I could make a similarly cute but healthy Halloween treat with my chocolate peanut butter protein ball recipe.
These are SO ridiculously easy to make, and really fast. Seriously!
I already had all the supplies and ingredients, so from coming up with the idea to making and photographing it, this took me less than an hour. Isn’t that crazy?!
The actual hands on time for making the spiders was only about 20 minutes. Here’s how!
CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER PROTEIN BALL RECIPE
Start with one cup of natural peanut butter. We buy the big jar of Adam’s Peanut Butter from Costco which is chunky, but you can use smooth too. Be sure to watch our video on the easiest way to stir natural peanut butter if you haven’t already.
Now  pour in 1/4 cup of raw honey. It adds just a touch of sweetness.
For protein powder, we use this organic rice protein powder because it’s dairy free. Great for a breastfeeding mama snack whose baby doesn’t tolerate dairy!
The last ingredient for the chocolate peanut butter protein ball mix is, of course, unsweetened cocoa powder.
I start the mixing with a fork because I don’t want my hands to end up covered in honey. Once it comes together a bit, then I begin to knead it into a dough with my hands.
Once it’s all come together, you’re ready to start making the dough into individual chocolate peanut butter protein balls.
Pinch off small amounts of dough and roll them into balls. One inch balls will give you 18 chocolate peanut butter balls. I like to make them slightly smaller and get 24.
Now you can add the candy eyes. Feel free to skip this step if you want to avoid processed sugars.
We use them for these spiders because they’re so cute!!!
Next you need to melt some chocolate. The easiest way is using chocolate chips of your choice. Our local grocery store has some really good organic dark chocolate chips that I love. You can melt them in a double boiler or in the microwave 30 seconds at a time.
Put the melted chocolate into a bag fitted with a small round frosting tip, I used a #3 tip. Then pipe legs for each spider, moving from the outside to the center.
Place the chocolate peanut butter protein ball onto the center of the legs.
Once you’ve made all the spiders, pop them in the fridge for at least 10 minutes so the chocolate can harden. We store these in the fridge and three of us go through them in about a week.
If you try these, I’d love to have you share it on Instagram and then tag me @EatingRichly so we can see them! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll also get to see our adventures in Cancun this week for the Food Blog University Conference. We’re so excited!

Oh my Gee! These are absolutely adorable (never thought I would be saying that when it comes to spiders). And what a genius way to get kiddos to snack on healthier treats. That being said. . .how ever did you keep them from eating the whole batch because I know that I myself wouldn’t be able to resist?;-)
Haha, it would definitely be easy to! Fortunately they’re so packed with protein that you actually feel pretty full after a couple.
What an adorable, healthy treat!
