Disney Releases Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe from Woody’s Lunch Box
Last month, for National Grilled Cheese Day, Disney released a recipe for their grilled cheese sandwich.
I have to admit that I haven’t been to Disney World in 30 years. But apparently, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida has an area called Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. They also serve quick walk up meals there at Woody’s Lunch Box.
Corban and I saw someone making it on TikTok a couple days ago, and he HAD to try it.
So I borrowed some costumes, got the ingredients, and we made a video testing out the recipe. Here’s how to make your own Disney Grilled Cheese Sandwich, along with our tips and tricks.
How to Make It
This sandwich has three components: the cream cheese spread, the garlic spread, and the sandwich itself.
Prepping each component makes it easy to to quickly assemble your grilled cheese sandwiches and get them cooking.
Cream Cheese Spread
To make the cream cheese spread you will need:
- ½ cup cream cheese
- ½ cup shredded double Gloucester, or cheddar cheese (I couldn’t find double gloucester at my store so went with a sharp cheddar)
- 2 Tablespoons of heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon of coarse salt, like Kosher salt.
You’re also going to need a food processor, though honestly I think you could mix this with a hand mixer or even by hand if you need to.
Place all the ingredients into the bowl of your food processor and mix until smooth.
Garlic Spread
Now it’s time to make your garlic spread. You’ll need:
- 1 cup of mayonnaise
- 1 ½ teaspoons of minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon of coarse salt.
While I will use jarred minced garlic in some recipes, when I’m cooking something with just a few simple ingredients I use fresh garlic. It just tastes better!
I use the flat side of my knife to smash the garlic cloves to make them easy to peel. I did 4 small to medium garlic cloves, but ended up not quite using it all.
I love the Chef’n garlic zoom that minces the cloves nice and tiny, and is really fun to use. It’s a great way to let kids help as well, because cooking time is connecting time!
Once your garlic is minced, dump all three ingredients in a bowl and mix them together really well with a fork.
Cheese and Bread
Finally comes the sandwich itself. You’re going to need:
- 8 slices of artisan bread
- 8 slices of medium cheddar
- 8 slices of provolone.
Lay out your slices of bread. Put 2 slices of cheddar on 4 of the pieces, and 2 slices of provolone on 4 of the pieces.
Assembling and Cooking the Sandwiches
Now divide your cream cheese spread into 4 portions, and spread each portion onto the provolone halves
Then simply put the cheddar sliced bread on top!
Get a good skillet heating on medium. You want it nice and hot when you add the sandwiches.
While the skillet is heating, spread your garlic mayo onto all the bread slices.
Place a sandwich into the skillet and cook 2 minutes. Then flip the sandwich and cook 2 minutes on the other side.
And there you have it! A mega cheesy sandwich of deliciousness straight from everybody’s favorite toys.
Tips for Cooking Disney’s Grilled Cheese Sandwich
I found that our sliced cheese was too big for the size of our bread slices. We ended up with a LOT of cheese in the pan for our first sandwich.
If your cheese slices are bigger than your bread, just use one slice of each cheese per sandwich, but tear it into two pieces to lay next to each other.
I used a heavy duty professional stainless steel skillet. I found my sandwich stuck a bit, but it was fine to get up with a stainless steel spatula.
You can also try a nonstick skillet or a griddle, to see if that works better.
Pin to Save for Later
This is truly an amazing grilled cheese sandwich. Make sure to pin the recipe so you don’t lose it, then leave a photo on the pin once you make it. We love seeing your creations!
