These jack o’lantern toasts make an easy Halloween breakfast for kids, and they also make an adorable edible craft!
EASY HALLOWEEN BREAKFAST FOR KIDS
If you love the idea of making your kids cute food for various holidays, but feel like it’s just too time consuming to do, these jack o’lantern toasts are the perfect solution.
Little circles of whole grain toast are smothered in cheddar cheese spread, and given cute jack o’lantern faces with slices of olives. We took the cuteness one step further by adding little broccoli stems to the top of each one.
But the best part of making this cute Halloween breakfast for kids? That it’s so easy, your kids can make it themselves!
HOW TO MAKE JACK O’LANTERN TOAST
Start by cutting two circles out of a piece of whole grain toast. You can use a cookie cutter but we just use a glass.
With bigger kids, you can toast the bread. For toddlers and preschool snacks, cutting the circles is easier if the bread is still soft.
At this point, I suggest confiscating the circles of bread momentarily while your hungry kids devour the scraps. Other wise you’re left with one full circle that the kids fight over turning into a jack o’lantern. Or so I’ve been told.
The next step is spreading cheese on the toasts. You can use a pub cheese spread, like the one we used, which is dyed naturally with apocarotenal. You can also use our pumpkin cream cheese spread which tastes like fall!
This is definitely gonna be messy if you let your kids do it themselves. But the fun they have doing it is totally worth it!
I just love little kid fingers hard at work in the kitchen!
Speaking of little kid fingers…
…you have to make sure to leave some olives whole for your kids to play with.
Seriously, we had ten whole minutes of olive finger fun after they finished their cheese toasts! If you’re not sure whether or not your kids will like the strong taste of olives, try these natural olives. They have no added colors or preservatives, just olives, salt, and water. We love their nutty flavor.
You can choose to slice a few olives for your kids to use, or you can give them a table knife or plastic knife to slice the olives themselves.
You can definitely keep it simple with olive rings, but older kids may like a variety of shapes to play with as they make their jack o’lantern faces.
The final step is to trim a few sticks of broccoli stem and use them to top off your jack o’lanterns.
