This fruit salad is a healthy football appetizer that’s perfect for Seahawks fans. Green apples and grapes are layered with blueberries in individual servings for a fast football snack that is so easy to make, a toddler can do it!
Any of you who are football fans know that our beloved Seahawks lost their game yesterday, so won’t be heading to the football. But that won’t keep us from sporting their colors during the Super Bowl!
To our son Corban, who just turned three last week, any football team is the Seahawks. So he was excited to help me make some Seahawks snacks, and enjoyed picking just the right blue and green ingredients.
GLAD OUR HOUSE DIDN’T GET CONDEMNED!
I had hoped to post this healthy football appetizer last week for Mini Chef Mondays, but we had to suddenly move out of our house the Friday before, due to discovering mold in our master bedroom. While it’s been a pain to deal with, we’re so thankful it’s not the toxic kind, and that we can stay with Eric’s parents who are close by.
Although not toxic, it can still cause respiratory and sinus issues, which may explain why we have all been incredibly sick for about 10 months! Fortunately, we had a good contractor recommended to us and should be moving back home this week. Cooking and photographing 11 recipes at someone else’s house without my typical set up has been quite the adventure.
We even shot a video for our guacamole bacon burger dip!
Let me tell you, editing photos and videos on a laptop, shooting with artificial lights, it’s definitely helped me realize how good we have it. But I have been SO thankful for my in-laws’ HUGE kitchen and wonderful generosity. Eric’s mom is a great cook, so she has had everything I needed.
HEALTHY FOOTBALL APPETIZER: MINI FRUIT SALADS IN SEAHAWKS COLORS
These mini fruit salads are pretty straight forward. They’re just granny smith apples, green grapes, and blueberries.
I chose to do the chopping of the grapes and apple so that Corban could just have fun assembling the fruit salad. If you want to let your Mini Chef do the chopping as well, make sure to use a knife that’s appropriate for their age, and to follow knife safety skills.
We really like these knives for preschool aged children, and this knife for ages 5 and up.
You don’t need to chop the apples and grapes super small, just so they’re about the same size to bite as the blueberries.
You could definitely mix the fruit altogether in a big bowl if you prefer. We like the individual layered appetizers because it gave us an opportunity to talk through patterns and fractions and made it a really fun learning time along with working in the kitchen.
It’s also great because Corban knew that he gets to eat one whole cup of fruit salad, and loved having his very own. He ate so many, I actually had to rescue the last three to photograph for this post!
Do you have a Mini Chef or a little Seahawk in your family? We’d love to see them! Feel free to share a photo on our Facebook page so we can meet your little one.

SEAHAWKS FRUIT SALAD RECIPE
Healthy Football Appetizer Seahawks Fruit Salad
Ingredients
- 1 granny smith apple
- 20 green grapes
- 2 cups blueberries
Instructions
- Chop the apple into bite sized pieces, trying to get a little bit of peel on most of the pieces. I just snack on the pieces without peel while we cook. Mama gets hungry!
- Slice the grapes the long way into quarters.
- Layer the fruit salad in clear plastic cups, starting with a layer of apple, then blueberries, then grapes.
- Top with a few more blueberries.
- Best served chilled.
Notes
Approximate cost/serving: This is pricier around Super Bowl time because none of the fruit is in season locally. This cost us about $6 for the batch, so $1 a serving.
Vegetarian/Gluten Free: Yes, dairy free and vegan too.
