If you need a healthy kid snack for Halloween, look no farther than these adorable chocolate chip banana ghosts. They’re fast and easy to make, and sure to delight kids of all ages.
KID FRIENDLY HALLOWEEN
In our family, Halloween is a time of community connection. It’s the one time of year we know we can interact with hundreds of our neighbors, and I’m always amazed at the number of meaningful experiences we end up having. Although we do have fun at zombie conventions, we choose to keep Halloween cute and fun, rather than scary.
My obsession with cute kid food is now full swing thanks to motherhood, and though Corban doesn’t get the chocolate chips yet, he can enjoy the bananas in these cute Boonana ghosts.
These are THE EASIEST Halloween snack you can make! But what’s really exciting is that they’re also a healthy Halloween snack, which is often difficult to find this time of year.
I have to add, now that Corban is almost 3, he knows what candy is, even though we’ve never given him any. He also asks for a cup of juice with sugar in it. *Face Palm* So teaching him to enjoy healthy snacks is even more important now!
Quick tip: If your bananas topple over, and a little bit of peanut butter still doesn’t hold them in place, just trim them a little shorter until they’re really sturdy. Mommy gets to eat the trimmed bits!

Ingredients
- 2 bananas
- 8 mini chocolate chips
- 4 chocolate chips
- 1/2 tsp peanut butter, optional
Instructions
- Peel the bananas then slice them in half.
- Try standing them on the cut end and continue trimming the base until they are able to stand on their own.
- Press two mini chocolate chips into the banana, pointy side first, about 1/2 inch down from the tip.
- Press one chocolate chip pointy side first into the banana, below the mini chocolate chips.
- Serve standing on a plate, use a little peanut butter to help them stay standing if needed.
Notes
Approximate cost/serving: Basically whatever your banana costs is your cost. So this ends up being around 30 cents a serving for me.
Vegetarian/Gluten Free: Yes to both, and you can easily keep it vegan by using dairy free dark chocolate chips.

Really cute and easy. I’m going to use these for the grand kids!
Wonderful, thanks for letting me know! I’d love to hear what they think of them 🙂
I am so happy to find your cute boonanas! I am making them for my kindergarteners halloween party and can’t wait to share the idea so people see there are some healthier fun alternatives to candy, cupcakes and cookies!!! These are way more fun!
Thank you Cindy! I completely agree.
Do these need to be made right before serving, ie do the banana turn brown if you make them the night before?
Yes they will turn brown. I try and make them no more than an hour before serving.
