You won’t be able to resist this homemade fajita sauce that works as a marinade for raw meat, AND a sauce to turn leftover cooked meat into instant fajitas.
MY SECRET ADDICTION
Have you ever watched the show Hoarders? You know what I mean, the show you watch to help yourself feel better because you can say “at least I’m not THAT bad!”.
Well I have a tendency toward hoarding, I have to admit it. And the one thing I probably have the most of?
CONDIMENTS!
I try to go through them at least once a year and weed out the ones I haven’t used, but I also know that as soon as I do I’ll end up needing it! I have a huge variety of vinegars, hot sauces, salsas, oils, mustards, wines and liqueurs, soy sauces, fish sauces, honeys, and more.
And then there’s all the little jars of condiments and sauces that I’ve mixed together using them! If I’m lucky, I remembered to label the jars so I actually know what’s in them. Otherwise, a sniff test followed by a tentative taste usually solves the mystery.
But my hoarding is not purposeless. (Is that what all hoarders tell themselves?) Having a well stocked pantry full of condiments and spices can make it really easy to throw together a last minute meal. Like this homemade fajita sauce recipe.
HOMEMADE FAJITA SAUCE FOR THE WIN!
A sure to be a success meal in our family, is anything Mexican or Mexican inspired. Rice and beans, tacos, soup, carne asada, carnitas, even lasagna, if it’s got taco seasoning (or any similar flavors), it’s sure to be eaten.
That’s why I’m in love with this homemade fajita sauce recipe. We always have the ingredients in our home, and we can use it on chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp. But the best part, is that it works as both a sauce and a marinade.
If there’s time to plan ahead, we marinate our meat in homemade fajita sauce for a couple hours, and then grill it.
If it’s last minute (ummm, yeah, almost always), we use some leftover rotisserie chicken, pot roast, pulled pork, or cocktail shrimp and toss it in the homemade fajita sauce. Then we heat it up in a skillet with some bell peppers and onions. You can serve it in tortillas, over rice, or eat it just as is with a side salad.
It’s perfect for our chicken fajita bowl recipe, and ground beef fajitas recipe. Both are ready in under 30 minutes!
THE SECRET INGREDIENT IN HOMEMADE FAJITA SAUCE
Oh, I almost forgot. There’s an ingredient in this homemade fajita sauce recipe that you might find surprising.
It’s got A1 steak sauce! A1 is so good, I practically drink it from the bottle, so I was tickled pink to discover that it actually works really well as base for other sauces.
While there is definitely a hint of steak sauce tang in the fajita sauce, it definitely takes on its own fajita spice flavor. The A1 is just a starting point. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

How lovely to see your site pop up when I was looking for a fajita sauce recipe this morning. I love this sauce 🙂 I made a big batch and canned it for use later in the year. Thank you!
I’m so glad Barbara! Thanks for letting me know!
My hubby was on his way home from work… I had all the ingredients for fajitas, except for the sauce! So I looked this up and had all the ingredients! Whoo hoo! Perfect! Might be good w a twist of pineapple too.
I
This is the first time that I hear about this sauce. It’s so wonderful and worth to try! My steak on this weekend will be perfect.
i have applied this recipe in my kitchen. Really helpful presentation. Thanks for your nice sharing.
It’s delicious! My entire family loved it:)). Thanks so much for this!
I don’t have any steak sauce what else can be used in the place of it I have plenty of tomato sauce
Do you have ketchup? It won’t quite be the same but you can mix 1/2 cup of ketchup with 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard, 1 tablespoon of worcestershire sauce, and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to sub for the steak sauce. Make sure to add any additional salt or hot sauce to taste as those are usually already in the steak sauce.
Can’t wait to try this!
I also happen to be a spice hoarder, but this recipe was so simple and quick to prepare that you don’t need that many ingredients. This was the tastiest fajita sauce I ever had so it became part of my personal cookbook of favorites. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent fajita sauce. It tasted amazing and was so easy to put together. I am going to make my own from now on. So much healthier with ingredients already on hand.
