It doesn’t get much easier than this friends. A little sugar, a little orange zest, a little jar. It all comes together to make a sweet gift for the holidays that’s always appreciated. You can give it in small bottles like the picture, with a tag recommending what to sprinkle it on:
-pancakes or French toast
-shortbread or sugar cookies
-cheesecake
-chocolate pudding
Or you can use a larger jar with baking recommendations to substitute it for plain sugar in:
-pound cake, bundt cake or coffee cake
-struesel toppings
-cookies
-banana bread
The orange sugar is a little clumpier than the other flavored sugars because of the moisture in the orange peels. But it works great and you can sift it for baking if necessary.
I have two more flavored sugar recipes coming up this week so stay tuned!
ORANGE SUGAR RECIPE
Ingredients
- 1 orange
- 1 cup granulated sugar
Instructions
- Use a microplane grater or the fine side of a grater to zest the orange, this means only grating the aromatic orange part of the peel, not the bitter white pith.
- Stir together the zest and sugar and store in an airtight container.
Notes
Approximate cost/serving:Â This only came out to about 40 cents for one cup of flavored sugar!
Vegetarian/gluten free:Â yes to both, vegan too.
